During the Month of Mary, Taiwan promoted solidarity through support for vulnerable youth in Rome, 1,200 students in Congo, and a Marian donation to PAMI.

ROME, ROME, ITALY, June 8, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- In the Month of Mary, the Embassy of the R.O.C. (Taiwan) to the Holy See promoted three solidarity initiatives in favor of the most vulnerable, in the spirit of sharing, education, and closeness to those most in need.

The first initiative took place on May 7 at the Institute of Santa Cecilia in Rome, run by the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians. Digital equipment was donated to the young women hosted by the institute, with the aim of fostering digital inclusion and broadening the educational opportunities of girls from vulnerable backgrounds.

The Institute of Santa Cecilia, part of the Salesian Family founded by Saint John Bosco, offers an educational and family environment for minors in difficulty, accompanying them on the path toward personal independence. During the visit, the sisters expressed their sincere gratitude to Taiwan. In return, Ambassador Anthony Chung-Yi Ho and Mrs. Ho presented the sisters with roses ahead of Mother's Day as a token of recognition for their daily service alongside the young women.

A second initiative was carried out on May 27 in partnership with the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (CICM – Scheut Missionaries). Through the donation of computers, printers, and accessories, two schools in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) — the Per Mpiana School Complex in Kinshasa and the Grupo Scholar Wanda Widi in Boma — will be able to strengthen their educational activities and offer new learning opportunities to over 1,200 students. The project also includes structured training programs for both teachers and pupils.

Father Charles Phukuta Khonde, Superior General of the CICM, expressed his gratitude, emphasizing that "Taiwan's humanitarian assistance is a proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus to the people of DRC" and that this initiative demonstrates that "Taiwan is an important partner of the Catholic Church in humanitarian assistance."

The third initiative, combining solidarity with cultural expression, took place on May 28 at the Pontifical International Marian Academy (PAMI), where the Embassy donated a sculpture of the Virgin Mary crafted by Taiwanese artist Lo Kuang-Wei using sea salt from Taiwan. The artwork, previously displayed in Rome as part of the "Love and Peace Special Exhibition" organized by the Embassy for the 2025 Jubilee, was received as a sign of Marian devotion and of friendship between peoples and cultures.

Welcoming the gift, Father Stefano Cecchin, President of PAMI, reflected on the universal dimension of Mary: "This gift points to the fact that Mary is a universal woman. I have been to Taiwan, to the shrine where Mary appeared to eleven Taoists, non-Christians, precisely to show this fundamental reality: that Mary unites. Just as the Taiwanese people are a gentle, generous people who can become an image of universal peace."

Ambassador Ho added that "the spirit of Our Lady beautifully reflects the spirit of 'Taiwan Can Help' — Taiwan's willingness and actions to spread love in the world," underlining that resilience, generosity, and care for others are "deeply Marian values."

"Taiwan is a force for good in international society. Our Embassy, on behalf of Taiwan, will continue to strengthen its partnership with the Holy See, the Catholic Churches, and affiliated organizations, to advance humanitarian assistance and create more opportunities for our neediest brothers and sisters, in response to the Holy Father’s call for peace and justice in the world," concluded Ambassador Anthony Chung-Yi Ho.
